Wynne Evans

Wynne Evans is an opera singer who has appeared in adverts for Go.Compare (formerly gocompare.com and GoCompare). He has played the character of Gio Compario since 2009, and has appeared as himself since 2019.

In 2019 and early 2020, Wynne made his first appearance as himself, in a series of ads where Gio reenacts car accidents such as a tree falling onto the road and a deer running on to the road. Wynne appears at the beginning and end of the ads, at the start when he announces who Gio is re-enacting while holding a picture of the person, and at the end when he announces that GoCompare give a £250 free excess cover as Gio returns to the screen in a worse state.

In 2020, just after lockdown had started, GoCompare ran a series of ads with only words, pictures and stills of Gio while Wynne voiced over. The campaign proved to be a great success.

Also in 2020, Wynne appeared in adverts for GoCompare, including 'The Voice', in which he reveals that he has sang the song for the past 11 years. Since then, he has also appeared alongside his alter-ego Gio.

In 2022, GoCompare rebranded to Go.Compare, and Wynne featured in the first Go.Compare advert, 'Just One Click' alongside Gio.

In 2022, Go.Compare sponsored The Voice. The sponsor adverts featured Wynne, Gio and Dot (a woman in a large green dot costume) as The Voice judges. The company have also sponsored Family Fortunes and the Welsh rugby team.

In 2023, Go.Compare ran an ad called 'Most Satisfying Day' without Wynne appearing as himself, although he still featured in the ads portraying Gio as well as narrating the ads. This has become the standard for Go.Compare ads.

Wynne appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, mentioning 'a certain advert' in his introduction video, a clear reference to the GoCompare ads. The Go.Compare website also mentioned Strictly on their page about Gio. The page states 'Since then he's starred in many of our adverts, alongside various other celebrities and had lots of adventures along the way. His most recent one being entering a Saturday night dance competition, the first brand mascot to do so! Wynne for the win! We hope to watch the beloved face of Go.Compare shimmy his way to success in the final.' Wynne was partnered with Katya Jones, the pair were eliminated in Blackpool Week (Week 9).
