Snap, Crackle and Pop are the mascots of Kellogg's cereal Rice Krispies.
In the USA, they are also the mascots of Cocoa Krispies.
They are three gnome-like elves who first appeared in the 1930s.
Originally, only Snap appeared on the cereal's packaging before being joined later by Crackle and Pop (Main article: Pop).
Their names are onomatopoeic.
In the early 1950s, there was a fourth elf named Pow, but he was later dropped.
Snap is usually portrayed wearing a chef's toque and a red neckerchief. Crackle often is shown wearing a red (or striped) sleeping cap and a white neckerchief, and Pop often wears a drum major's shako, but is sometimes also seen with a chef's toque, or an odd combination of both a shako and a toque.
Corporate promotional material describes their relationship as resembling that of brothers.
Snap is the oldest and is known as a problem solver, Crackle is an unsure "middle child" and known as a jokester, and Pop is a clumsy youngster and the centre of attention.
In the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Snap, Crackle and Pop were portrayed as superheroes.
In the mid 1990s to early 2000s, they were stop-motion instead of their usual hand drawn animation. They were later CGI animated until 2021. Snap, Crackle and Pop will change back into their 1996 forms during 2021.
in the U.K. the designs were changed a lot. Snap were blue crackle were green and pop were red. They look like kids. They were claymotion then cartoon since around 2006-2011 and then CGI from 2020-present. In the adverts, The Rice Krispies elves are usually jolly, However Pop sometimes gets upset when he gets hurt, sees scary things and things that he does not like. In the Kellogg's Design A Pack advert from 2000, Pop comes to the rescue when Snap and Crackle are in trouble with Loopy the Honey Loops bee. 1996’s Pop never feels in a bad mood in the new adverts from June 2020.
It was almost confirmed that Pop was transgender, but turned out to be a lie. Speaking of LGBT characters, Crackle has feminine-like qualities in the Canadian commercials, hinting that he could be gay.
The elves have their favorite kind of Rice Krispies Treat, with Snap liking original, Crackle liking rainbow (which has colorful coated chocolate candy on it) and Pop liking strawberry (which is flavored to taste like artificial strawberries).
