Ready Eddie was the former mascot for Ready Brek from 1986-1989.
He was the first mascot for Ready Brek and his first appearance was in a 1986 Ready Brek advert created by Aardman Animations in which he was described as a "boring chap" until he fell into a bowl of Ready Brek and became cool and hyperactive, being ready for anything. In his TV ad, he glows after eating Ready Brek as that had been a primary staple for the brand's TV ads at the time (and still is).
When he appeared on boxes of Ready Brek, it also gave details about what his life was like before and how exactly he fell into the bowl of Ready Brek. It was stated that he was born in a small village outside Grimsdale, called Edward by his parents. He was a boring child, spending most of his time watching repeats of the weather forecast and collecting tadpoles. One day while he was counting blades of grass, he fell into a bowl of Ready Brek that either his brother Stevie or sister Jenny had left out, resulting in Edward becoming Ready Eddie. After saying goodbye to his previously dull life, he became a popular student, scoring eight goals on his school's football team, forming a band with his friends called Eddie and the Ripcords and even getting himself a girlfriend named Jane.
He had quite a few merchandise during his time as Ready Brek's mascot such as a bendy rubber toy, a hand puppet and bowls and mugs, but he is not as well remembered as the Ready Brek dragon, consequently most of Ready Eddie's merchandise is extremely difficult to find nowadays. Despite serving as a mascot, only one TV ad featuring him was produced which was rerun throughout the late 80s until he was removed as a mascot, leaving three years with no mascot for the brand.
