The Ad Mascot Wiki

Professor Weeto was the former mascot for Weetabix Weetos in the UK and France.

Professor Weeto is a neurotic scientist inventor who regards his chocolate flavoured cereal, Weetos as one of his greatest inventions. His ad campaign ran from 1989 to 2006 in the UK and 1991 to 2007? in France. In his original appearances he was 2D animated onto a Weetos box but in 1992, Aardman Animations animated him as a standalone being in stop-motion animation and showcased more of his laboratory within these ads. In these ads, Professor Weeto would also have an assistant accompany him in most cases. This assistant Professor Weeto would regularly abuse physically and mentally by bashing him on the head with a giant cartoony mallet or insulting him by calling him a fool. In either 1999 or 2000, Professor Weeto's appearance was changed into CGI animation with one of these ads featuring him trying to communicate with aliens whose vocals sound like the crunching of Weetos. In 2003, his CGI appearance was changed to look more cartoony and exaggerated and new characters were added to the commercials including a new assistant and a mischievous robotic cat. The professor was a lot more kind to this new assistant than his former, despite the new one being a lot more stupid.

It seems that 2005 was the last year to feature Professor Weeto starring in UK advertisements but it does appear that early on in 2006, Professor Weeto's face was still on the box but later on he was axed completely, with new TV ads not featuring him at all and his face being removed from packaging. He appeared to still be appearing in French ads however but it is unknown for how long this lasted.

Professor Weeto was officially replaced in 2008 by another character animated by Aardman Animations, a sentient muscular Weeto who appeared to just be named "Weeto" but don't quote me on that. This mascot only lasted a couple of years before Weetos brought out a new advert with sentient moustaches which ended up being a somewhat controversial campaign that also did not last long. To this day, Weetos has not created another mascot since axing both Professor Weeto and the "Weeto" character.
