Ovaltina was the mascot for Ovaltine in the UK from 1985-1986. She is the animated version of the woman seen on Ovaltine products at the time.
The ads starring her would portray her as a heroine character who would help people in peril by giving them Ovaltine, which would inspire them with an idea of how to rescue themselves. The Ovaltina theme would narrate the events of the ad while rhyming everything with "Ovaltina", ending with the slogan "She'll pick you up with Ovaltina". Her first two ads were directed by Max Headroom creators Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, one featured Ovaltina rescuing a man whose steam train is about to go off a ravine, and another where she helps "spookbusters" defeat ghosts who had trapped them in a haunted house. In 1986 however, there was a new ad directed by Geoff Dunbar, known for Rupert Bear and the Frog Song, this ad was known for being very racist as it shows a man in a cauldron about to be eaten by cannibals with designs reminiscent of racist caricatures of African tribesmen, this ad was reportedly pulled which might explain why Ovaltina was so short-lived.
Despite her short mascot career, she is remembered fondly as part of classic British advertising. There were also musical mugs sold with Ovaltina on them, they would play the Ovaltina theme when you picked it up. The mugs tend to sell for a lot on eBay.
