Maz hurtles through the air in an early commercial for Mazuma Mobile.
Maz is the mascot for British phone exchange company Mazuma (previously Mazuma Mobile).
Maz is a CGI-animated phone designed with semi-human proportions. He wears bright-red from head to foot, with a purple and white keypad on his chest (this is later exchanged for a screen in later appearances to reflect the shift from flip-phones to smart phones) and three purple buttons just above his face. In earlier appearances Maz is referred to as 'Mazuma'.
In 2018 he received a redesign, with Megaman-like robotic armour and a new simplistic face. This however was short-lived and a design similar to the original was put into use, now lacking the antenna and keypad, replacing them with a phone-like interface.
Maz is most known for his 'Oompa-Loompa' commercials, where he and several clones sing a jingle based on the song the Oompa-Loompas sing whenever a child is taken off the tour in the 1971 Roald Dahl adaptation Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The ad was re-aired several times, each with differing graphics to reflect the company's current branding at the time.
