The Ad Mascot Wiki

The Buttermen were the mascots of Country Life butter. They were introduced in 1977 and discontinued sometime in the 2000s.

There were four of them, who all looked identical and were made of butter. They all had West Country accents and would sing songs about how there's no better butter to put on your knife than Country Life. They also had a fondness for women and beer. They lived in a block of Country Life butter and in some adverts, they appear to work for Country Life. They were animated by Tony Cattaneo.

Most Buttermen adverts that can be found online date back to the 70s and 80s but it looks as though they had been brought back sometime in the late 90s or early 2000's according to an animation showreel on Vimeo where you can see a snippet of a Country Life advert that's clearly newer and animated by a different studio. https://vimeo.com/30132086

Lyrics to some Buttermen songs[]

Buttermen advert from 90s or 2000s

Buttermen advert from 90s or 2000s

Ooooooh, we are the lads from Country Life
And you'll never can't put a better bit o’ butter on yer knife
If you haven’t any in ‘ave a word with yer wife
And spread it on yer toast in the mornin’

It’s Country Life, it’s English too,
From the cow to the dairy, from the dairy down to you,
‘Cos it’s pure, smooth, tasty and fresh and creamy through and through,
So spread it on yer toast in the mornin’ Hahahahahahahahahahahahodoh!

Country Life Buttermen Housewises Song Lyrics

Ooooooooh, Every morning his lady wife

Does eggs and toast and Country Life

You'll never put a better bit of butter on your knife,

It's creamy smooth and tasty too!

It's English and it's good for you!

Spread it on thick at breakfast time!

It's not every butter that tastes so fine

She knows what I like, this of miiiiiiiine

And he gets it all the time! hahahahahahahaha
